I've made at least 300 11 x 17 to 13 x19 prints from *istD images. The only ones that have proved unsatisfactory seemed to be the product of operator error, usually camera shake softness or simply missed focus. I generally judge all my prints under magnification, and I'm reasonably picky. However, I don't shoot many landscapes. Most of my work is people, cars or table-top studio.

A high proportion of my DSLR shots are vistas/landscapes, stitching has
alleviated my need for higher res some of the time but as you could no doubt
appreciate it's not a practical way to work all the time.

I've looked at this problem, and have concluded that a DSLR is about as useful as a 35mm camera for landscapes.
I don't think doubling the pixel count is going to change my mind.
I suspect that shortly, I will be investing heavily in B&W sheet film, paper and chemistry (if it's not already too late), so that I will be able to continue shooting larger format for as long as I am able to, or want to.
