Hi Bob
It's a big country, so it depends where you're heading!
In the tropical north we don't have spring, only the wet season,
dry season and the bits in between. November is the start-up to
the wet season (known locally as the "build up") and is generally
regarded as one of the less pleasant times to visit. On that
basis, earlier (September, October) would be better. You would
also probably experience climatically more pleasant conditions
"down south" (ie southern Australia).
Don't get me wrong: the wet season is spectacular, and many
locals prefer it, but you wouldn't really experience that in
November. (Also, if it is a big wet, it *may* limit travel in
more outlying regions.)

As for places to visit...where do you start? It probably depends
a bit on your interests...

A fringe benefit at my employer is an 8 week sabbatical every 10
years. I've been thinking of spending 3 weeks 'down under'. You
folks have convinced me it gets damned hot in Australia during your
summer, so I've been thinking of spring. And all those great pictures
of New Zealand have me wanting to go there as well.
My calculations have centered on sometime in September or October,
maybe even November, but I thought I'd ask for advice. Great scenery
and good photo opportunities are desired... plus I want to hear people
talk funny!!! :-)
Any advice as to time and places.
