I honestly haven't seen any of the rest of Australia or NZ, so I'm no
help. If I could ever get more than a week off NZ would be high on my
list of travel destinations.

I won't bother sharing with you my thoughts/theories on the "down
under" name :-)

In West Australia at that time of year the wild flowers are in full
bloom. Travelling through some of the more rural areas 2-3 hours
outside of Perth you'll find whole fields of unique native flowers.
And if you don't mind a glass of wine, while your out there stop off
at some of the gazillion wineries south of Perth.
