18 months would give you just enough time to scout the edges of Oz for good places to return to so really with just weeks up your sleeves you'd be better off planning to base yourself in a city and make day or several day trips. I have travelled the south to the west (not much up north as yet (NT, QLD)) and have a fairly extensive catalogue of travel information. So do let us know where you intend to visit as the time gets closer and we may be able to help fill any gaps in your itinerary.
