I am pretty happy with my Sunpak DX-12R. The modelling lights come in handy. However, TTL with the*istD is somewhat inconsistent and I find myself going full manual for most closeup work with the ring flash. It does a lot better with longer distances, but that's really not the point for a ring light.
Have you a body on which the flash does better? TTL has distance limitations, what does the flash manual/spec say?
Tom, as Vicky hinted, Pentax made two ring-flashes, the 080 and the 140. The latter I believe to have the option to partially light. Boj is your friend for the specs. I have had the 080 for quite a while but I have not used it as much as it deserves, as I got too cosy with the AF500FTZ.
Have you tried the Nocan list? :-P Kostas
