This is not a rumor, it is the official announcement from Pentax during PMA. If you want something of that calibre and price, I'd wait until Fall when it makes its debut.
But it isn't really necessary. I expect the new body to be excellent, and plan to buy one when it is available, but in the meantime the *ist DS is proving to be an excellent camera, fully capable of professional quality work. I find it useful enough that I was happy to purchase a second body.
