I can. The cameras are different sizes, so at best you'd have an ugly gap at one end where it didn't match the bottom plate of the D. At worst, it wouldn't fit - is the tripod socket on the D further from the right edge of the camera than on the DS? > But as Paul said, those who want it already have one.
