Don't be disappointed. This is a very difficult shot. Not many cameras can
AF fast enough, at such a short distance.

DOF is still limited, even though it's F8.
A Pentax AF system isn't the fastest on the planet, you know.
And no matter how fast it is, it will never be fast enough!
As long as it takes time - the actual exposure will still come a little too
late - more or less, naturally.

My best bet is to:

1. Use a wide angle (great DOF) and step back a few steps.
2. Shoot from a distance (2-4 meters)
3. Pre focus (MF)
4. Do a 5 shot burst, starting well BEFORE the subject is in focus.

Hopefully one frame will be fine.

Don't rely on AF for close-up shots like this
Of course a 6-8 shot burst (Canon, Nikon) has a better chance of succeding
than just a 5 shot burst.
But that's only A PART of the problem here.

i am serious, this was my first shot (ever) with AF SLR and
i am mildly disappointed. i am trying to figure was it an operator error,
or a limitation of equipment.
i know that with manual focus, this shot wouldn't have been a problem at all
(a swing is a pretty predictable device :)

best,
