1) A 50mm focal length is still a normal perspective only with the
sides cut off, because the sensor is smaller than a 35mm negative, and
so the recorded image is simply smaller because of that.

Imagine if you will, that you are standing in the same spot with four different cameras, all with 50mm lenses attached. The crop lines I have drawn on the picture is a not to scale approximation of what will be captured on film or sensor if you take a picture with each of your four cameras.
