I got mine new last year for about AU$150 (took 6-7 weeks though).

I use it quite often with my FA 80-200 f2.8, and i non scientific
comparisons of pictures taken with & without it,  I haven't noticed
any image degradation. But it may be there. I just can't see it :-)
