This morning I took the car for it's MOT. It passed with flying colours,
which for a 14 years old Golf 1.8 is not bad going. However, on the way
back I popped into a very large store 'Prisma' -- the Finnish version of
Walmart. I was examining the rechargeable cells display when I noticed a
lady working with one of those stock taking bar code readers close by. I
asked her if there they had Lithium cells anywhere. She saw I was
looking at the re-chargeables (huge display) and said. "I don't think we
have any, but I'll check. They are a bit dangerous you know." She phoned
someone and found they didn't have. "Sorry we don't keep them anymore."
I nodded and she went on: "They can catch fire. But if it's for a camera
why don't you use these and she walked me around the corner to another
display (even more huge!) and selected a package of 'Energizer Ultimate
Lithiums.' "These will last for ages." I bought four (21 Euro) and went
my way.
This young lass -- in her early twenties -- knew her job and I was more
than a little surprised. I forgot, for the moment, that I was in
Finland. I wanted single use Lithiums anyway but the rechargeable
selection which included many makes of charger, all kinds of adapters
and special offers, caught my eye. I've never seen so many batteries in
one place before.
The Lithiums are to be my backups. I've been using the originals,
between times when I run out of charged NiHM, and I think they might die
soon. I don't know if there's a way of checking CR-V3s.
