Shel and others,

As a lurker on this list I see that mail problems are wide spread. I also suspect that some domains have been harvested from this list as well. What do I mean;

An open relay is a mail system that allows unauthenticated users to log on to the mail server and relay mail usually spam through that server. That makes the mail look like it came from the server that was used to relay. The problem is bad enough that various people and groups have started to black list servers that are seen as having the "open relay" When blacklisted, it is difficult if not impossible to send or receive mail and the owner usually has to prove that the open relay has been closed in order to be removed form the blacklist.

Harvesting means that a system has gone through the list and found open domains (the part of your address after the @ sign) that can be used to spoof email. My domain has been harvested and as a result I am getting a large number of returned mails for one reason or another. None of the senders are known to me and appear to be made up. The reason I suspect this list is that the subjects sometimes seem to reference subjects that have appeared on the list. On the other hand, I am paranoid and if you put a 1000 monkeys in front of word processers, one will reproduce the bible, or something like that.

I love my DS and this list continues to be of interest and help. I hope my short explanation helps those with questions and doesn't confound those who understand these things better than I.

Hi Bob ... Glad you got the message. I hope you were able to listen to
Salgado.

I don't understand what you're talking about. I don't know what a dynamic
IPs is, nor have I clue about open relays. I am, however, rather pissed
because, at least until recently, your mail had been getting through to me
just fine. My spam blocker has all your addresses (that I know of) listed
as good and acceptable. I will contact Earthlink and find out what's going
on.

I am so effin' sick of spammers and the problems they cause.

Shel

I've twice tried to reply to your recent email to me about Salgado (for
which, thanks), but your email provider is bouncing my emails. It says
"Dynamic IPs/open relays blocked. Contact
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>".
So if you thought I was being rude in not replying, I wasn't!

I'm not sure what it wants me to do about this, or if there's anything you
can do about it. I have no control over the fact that I get a dynamic IP
address from my ISP, nor do billions of other people. I'm also not using
an
open relay as far as I know - perhaps there's one on the route, but again
there's nothing I can do about that.
