Hi Mark ...

I've stayed out of this thread until now.  I have to disagree with
your comment, because, for many people, the way a camera body feels is
of great importance, and if the only way Pentax can get the "feel"
they were looking for is to hand apply the finish, then I consider it
a real plus and a feather in the cap for Pentax.  I don't think that
those of us who can appreciate the subtleties of camera design or
finish are "dweebs".  Perhaps the tactile sense a camera provides is
lost on you, or you don't care about such things, but for others it's
an important consideration.

An example that I recently encountered is with Leica. Some years ago
they changed the vulcanite covering of their bodies to something that
was easier to apply and less costly.  When one looks at the two
variants there's no noticeable difference, but once the cameras are
put to hand the difference becomes obvious to the user.  There are any
number of Leica users who will not buy a newer body because of this. 
And there are many who will spend a lot of extra time and money to get
their worn or damaged vulcanite-covered bodies repaired with the older
- and long out of production - material.  Dweebs?  I think not.
