There's three issues with the doomsaying about Global Warming that I see. The first is that CO2 isn't even close to being the primary source of the Greenhouse Effect, plain old Water Vapour is. To the tune of 60+ percent of the effect from the most reliable numbers I've seen. Modifiying human CO2 output enough to have a significant effect would most likely require a massive shutdown of industrial activity (remember that human industry is not the only source of CO2, Volcanic activity alone is a major source)
The second is the Medieval Optimum Period. The planet was a fair bit warmer in relatively recent recorded history. So warm that grain was a cash crop in Greenland and southern england was a major wine region. The third is Mars. It's also got a case of global warming. Which points to solar output as a primary cause rather than anything we've done. The silliest doomsaying is the flooding from emlting icecaps idea. Ice is less dense than water. Melted icecaps are as likely to result in sea level drops than rises. I think there are far more important environmental issues to be solved than Global Warming. I'm much more interested in finding a way to get rid of coal fired power plants (Who's emissions are a major source of radiation, at least in the eastern US and Canada with the hot coal that's being used), reducing industrial emissions and developing cleaner cars. -Adam Don Sanderson wrote: > Agreed, I just returned from the movie. > Quite eye opening but I now feel the need to dig deeper, > not to panic. > The science is good, but the facts are all being channelled > towards one specific conclusion, there may be others. > I certainly feel the need to know more, that was the movies > primary effect on me. > > Don > > >>-----Original Message----- >>From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of >>Paul Stenquist >>Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2006 7:23 PM >>To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List >>Subject: Re: now *this* is hysterical ... >> >> >>Even the NY Times, which is unabashedly liberal and green, >>characterizes the Gore film as "one side of the story."
