I've got twelve NiMH AA batteries. They're all at least 1.5 years old, but up until recently, they all worked fine. I used them in my *istD as well as my various flashes. A couple nights ago I tried to take a night sky photo and my *D gave me the "dead battery" icon. I tried another set and got the same thing, even though they'd been charged the day before. I charged all three sets again, but continued to have similar problems.
Obviously these batteries aren't holding a full charge. I know that cycling batteries (drain, charge, drain, charge, etc) is supposed to help NiMH batteries regain their former capacity, but I haven't any ideas how to drain the batteries in a relatively short period of time. I suppose I could stick them in a flash and repeatedly hit the test button over and over until there's nothing left, but I've got a feeling this wouldn't be good for the flash tube. Does anyone have any ideas for discharging AA batteries? Or, should I just bite the bullet and buy all new sets?
