Pardon me saying this Tom: but the "run about like naked animals" part sounds very ethnocentric in my ears. To be totally strait with you, I find it rather offensive.
In Norway, it is totally common to let children have fun, with or without clothes. When they get shy, they start wearing clothes at the beach. That's our customs. I don't find anything wrong about that. You may think this is strange, but to us, it's completely natural.
