I haven't used the Windows beta much. At my system it is far to slow. After every tiny adjustment I have to wait a few seconds to see the effect. But judging from my little experience it has no control similar to the fill in RSE/P.
I've been using RSE/P for about a year now. And I'm pretty happy with it. But I think I might be ready to move on soon. One of the things I was hoping for in the next version of Rawshooter was to be able to meta tag images before converting them. So, for me, the take over from Adobe was not bad news. (My RSP license will allow me to download a free finalised version of Lightroom) At first I enjoyed the effect of the fill. At first glance it makes the images pop. But after using it for some time I realised it has it side effects. So now I only use a tiny bit of fill. I have been thinking a lot about what the control really does. And my conclusion is a analogy to the audio world. It is kind of similar to a midrange control in an audio system. To boost the midrange in a sound system often makes it easier to hear what a man says, but it also makes the sound a bit tiring, like a voice from an bad telephone system. To translate the analogy to photo: The fill makes faces pop in frame, but it also creates some very strange skin tones, if overused. Now I'm trying to make the images pop without or with very little fill. This makes the converting a harder, but I think the results are better. What am I trying to say? Perhaps that if Lightroom lives up to my expectations, I think I can manage without the fill control in RSE/P. I even think I might live happily without it.
