The widely varying performance is because some testers don't realize 
that the D70 and D50 use different but related sensors. The D100, *ists 
and KM bodies are all fairly similar in noise performance (and use the 
same sensor), the D70 is better but not massively so and the D50 is 
better to much better than the D70 (better in RAW, much better in JPEG).
