In Japan, Pentax factory cannot meet the demand even on a 3 shift basis. There is a waiting queue and you have to wait for varying time in some areas before you can get your paws on it, which of course is very rare for the (past) Pentax. Japanese market is fairly maturing and there are enough people who understand that 6mp is sufficient for the most application with better high ISO performance and benign to the comouter etc. Many people who have not been the Pentax users are now buying k100D which can compete head to head with the comparable competitions. But people rediscovered Pentax for its high performance/cost, good erganomic, AA batteries, SD card etc etc, which are considered honest and user friendly design. Re its price, I think there is now a ¥10,000 cash back deal offered by Pentax. They are almost getting out of digital P&S market which just a couple of years ago was their bread & butter line. Now they have, what, 3 or 4 models? Hope Pentax make enough money and continue to produce high performance and practical models. As the 1st phase of digital technology is maturing, N/C domination has been gradually changing. Look how many mfrs are entering into this market with attractive products. K10D has a weather/dust seal and USM is coming. So, sky is NOT falling after all :-). Cheers, Ken -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
