Indeed. I hope I'm not insulting anyone by saying that this must be
the curse of urbanization.

As one of the more "rural" photographers on the list I can't see that
this actually is such a big point. There's a time and a place for
minimizing gear load, and there are other times when bringing what you
have is appropriate and a courtesy to the people you will meet.
