I'm not so sure about that. I think you will find that the 1-series D-SLRs (and the EOS-1V) have gaskets on the lens mount, as well: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dsmkii/page5.asp And yet, according to Canon, the camera is not weatherproof unless it's got one of the sealed lenses mounted on it. Similarly, you will find the lens mount both on the camera and on the lens gasketed with Nikon and Olympus sealed bodies/lenses.
