The thing that is different is the 2 control wheels.  This is something 
the original D had but the Ds and Dl did not.

Don't worry too much about that.  The number of exposures quoted (I 
believe) is based on like 50% use of the on-board flash.  For 
comparison, I shot over 1000 exposures (no flash) on one charge of the 
Lithium-Ion batteries in the 20D and 90% of those used IS which is 
supposed to cause heavy drain.
