A number of magazines have conducted taste tests pitting New York City water against all the top bottled brands. The tap water almost always wins. Ditto for great lakes water in Chicago, Detroit and other midwest cities. I haven't had tap water in Anaheim, California, but I've drank plenty of it in LA hotels. Seemed fine to me.
