Typically we have a small monthly charge ($5.00) plus small  
transaction fees, maybe $0.05 to $0.50 for most transactions.  Over- 
the-counter transactions can cost a couple of dollars (the banks seem  
to hate employing staff).

Depending on the type of account, if you have a certain minimum  
average balance, most fees are reduced or waived (and they might even  
pay you interest).  If you have a mortgage, typically all fees will  
be waived because they pale into insignificance compared to the  
mortgage payments :(
