Hello Boris:

I had the same problem with my *istD, and it turned out -- as was  
posted a few months back, I think -- that some of the earlier  
assemblies had problems with the a wire burning out or some element  
essentially breaking.  You'll have to send the camera in for repair  
or replacement to fix this problem.  If you can live without the  
built-in flash, nothing else is really affected by this problem.

I bought my camera at B&H, and it happened within three weeks of the  
purchase.  The first person I talked with said they'd replace the  
camera, although it turned out that if I had gotten anyone else on  
the phone they would have told me to deal with Pentax directly.  So  
instead of waiting a few weeks for a repair, I got a new camera in  
two days.
