Is the Core 2 Duo similar to my Centrino Duo?

Have you looked at the Pentium D 960, 3.6Ghz its a 775 socket so I think 
it should fit your board. I'm currently upgrading to the the Core 2 Duo, 
have the chip and ram, awaiting delivery of the m/board and graphics 
card. I've seen test results on this chip that shows a 40% increase in 
photoshop and a 13% increase over the Athlon 64 FX-62.
