Hi Doug, anything you use to grip it will bend the ring a bit out of round, jamming it in place. Try laying it face down on a thin piece of rubber. Gently hold the piece that isn't supposed to turn and twist. I just lay stubborn ones face down on the palm of my hand and turn, almost always works.
