See the belt wrench in the image below, that's all I've ever needed to
remove the most stubborn filter. I bought if from Micro-tools some
time ago but I don't know if this particular one is sold any longer,
it has "Newline" on the handle, I've also seen them as sold as jar
openers for arthritis sufferers.
