To me, "state of the art" means having the most modern technology. And I
can't think of any camera that can be considered more up-to-date than the
K10D (at the moment).

"High-end" is different. A Rolls Royce is "high-end" because of its
no-expense-spared design and construction. But it may not be
state-of-the-art.

So (IMHO) "state-of-the-art" is temporary, "high-end" is timeless.

Good question John. Honestly I don't know what I meant using this term

Higher specked, pro bodies, full frame and such.

Thinking about it I'd say that D200 is not state of the art, either is 5D
(it is a good camera, but it is not a fine tuned refined camera). So I
believe I was referring to highest of the high class.

BTW. In my old days as a HiFi freak I was used to referring to extremely
fine tuned and well built equipment by this term. Now I think the HiFi
freaks calls this stuff "high end". I prefer using "state of the art",
to me
it indicates craftsmanship, artistic madness, and a little dose of magic
;-)

I like madness ;-)

So what camera would you say is "state of the art"?

Yes I did.
This video proofs or more suggests that it is fast with non USM lenses
too.
My only concern now is the IQ. If my expectations about IQ are fulfilled
the
K10D is a milestone. The *istD was important indeed as a statement. The
K10D
looks like a more refined camera. Not state of the art, but very
competitive
in its segment.

Did you read my report?

I dunno about "USM" speed of course but I can tell you that AF with
DA18-55 at 55 (f/5.6) is *at least* 2-3 times faster than a D with
NiMH.

This is not my main concern about the K10D, but I've been thinking a
bit
about it.
I don't know how scientific this video at YouTube.com, comparing Sony
Alpha,
Canon 400D and Samsung GX10 is, but it should tell us something.

I don't worry about AF speed anymore :-)
It seem to be way faster than the competitiors.
