Maybe.  I haven't pulled apart a PEF (or DNG) from the K10D, but it's
possible that there is a transform (gamma correction and/or tone curve)
applied to the data in the analog domain prior to A-to-D conversion,
or in a post-conversion digital stage before truncation to 12 bits.

The practical result would be a significant reduction in shadow noise.
