I don't follow you. Is the capture (sensor & ADC) done at 22 bits or 12
bits?

Well you are free to hold that position but to me the output from the
CCD has just been sampled and massaged to fit the 12 bit RAW profile
optimally. We don't know the data depth in processing, we only know
that the CCD is sampled with 22 bit data precision. The 12 bit RAW
file is contains discrete RGB data sampled under a Bayer filter
pattern so it has to undergo significant post processing for it to be
even recognised as a colour image.
