That seems to be his current thinking.
Re FF (or anything substantially larger than the current APS sized sensor),
I am sure Pentax will adopt it when it ever becomes a main stream (which
means the sensor cost becomes significantly low), but for now, it is
unlikely to happen although I have no crystal ball on that. In general, the
larger the sensor size is, the better the image quality becomes, just like
in the case of film. But 645D is probably the different beast altogether,
and I suspect that Pentax are not really viewing their 645D as an
alternative to what is called 35mm size FF digital. The file size would be
so much bigger (hey, it's 32MP or whatever!. What storage card do they use,
or do you have to drag around a laptop with large HDD? :-), requiring quite
a bit of computing power to process it, and people have to invest in the
whole new line of large and expensive lenses. With the current
proliferation of K-mount lenses, I am certain that Pentax would go FF (if
and when appropriate, but you never know. They are just watching as Nikon
seem to be doing. APS-C,H size sensors could be developed further), keeping
the current DSLR form factor, protecting the investment in the K-mount
lenses which is overwhelmingly larger than the 645 lens bases.
In the meantime, if the lenses one currently has serve the purpose, there is
no need to invest in DA's. If one bought a couple of wide angle DA's, it
will take care of most of the digital needs. While I realize some 35mm
lenses have CA, purple fringe problems etc (24mm/2.0 said to have the
problem), anything beyond 200mm (even 135mm) do not have to be "smaller
image circle" lenses. Pentax pretty much took care of the wide angle range
and I won't be surprised that more DFA lenses coming out in the future,
particularly in longer FL. This does not necessarily mean they are eyeing
at FF sensor size, but it seems that Pentax have been steadily changing ALL
lenses to digital compatibilities, taking advantage of the necessity to
scrap all lenses due to lead content issue (according to Pentax).

Canon for example is actually slow in "digitizing" their lenses. By the
time people realizes, Pentax might actually be ahead of the game in a few
years :-).
They really seem to know what they are doing, looking far ahead down the
line.
