Well, I tend to agree with you. However for me both SR and AF are secondary, though of course on the paper K10D made many steps forward from *istD:
1. More pixels 2. Faster 3. Better AF 4. SR 5. Wider dynamic range (allegedly) 6. Weather proof 7. Dust removal in camera 8. Support for Pentax version of USM 9. Something else I probably forget So of course K10D is more advanced. But so is MZ-5n compared to MX. Yet like you said yourself, you can get excellent pictures from both cameras. Jaume, consider this. Suppose you have a certain style of shooting that does not change much over time. Suppose further that you have a certain maximal size of print that you ever decide to produce. Now, suppose that you have a camera (even digital one) that satisfies both your shooting style and produces excellent prints of your maximal size and of course all smaller sizes. Why then would you want to buy a new camera? I still maintain that *istD (I am not really familiar with other cameras of the same family) is perfectly suitable tool for hobbyist such as myself. I do admit that I am eyeing very seriously K10D 'cause if indeed it provides significant improvement of DR - it will be a deciding factor for me. And of course, if in due course Pentax will produce a firmware upgrade that will yield 16 bit RAW files - I may want to upgrade. Here is by the way some of the features I forgot to mention above - DNG support and better JPG engine. Cheers.
