The 16-50 is one of the three announced DA*'s. These are the weather sealed lenses, so if it's out of your budget, so is weather sealing, at least from Pentax.
The 16-45 is a very good lens. It's got some weaknesses (most notably the barrel on some units is a bit wobbly at full extension and the hood design is sub-optimal) and some features some people don't like (extends as it gets wider, rather a lot of extension). -Adam Michael Chan wrote: > I have been restraining myself from buying the 16-45 for months now, > anticipating the weather-sealed lenses.
