Then you believe wrong. As I said, the meter turns itself off after
either 3, 10 or 30 seconds, at any exposure mode (M, Av, Tv, Sv, P
etc)  depending how you have the camera set up. The camera is still
ready to shoot, the meter's just not on.

The camera will fire at any time if you fully press the shutter.
