I'm not so interested in "classic" style or feel as I am in
performance and function. I did not use Pentax equipment before I
bought the *ist DS, but I remember the LX well from when it came out
20+ years ago. Nice camera, but at that time I preferred the Nikon F3/
T, FM2n, and FE2 cameras. Those three were workhorses that did
everything I wanted, and lasted for me with never a single need for
repair from when I bought them in 1980-82 until 2001.

The *ist DS gave me what I missed in other cameras since the Nikon
film SLRs: solid, practical design with sensible and useful, easy to
learn features. Like you, I know it very well and I feel I've gotten
as much as it can give from it. It is destined to be something of a
classic in my opinion: a very sensible, practical, affordable DSLR
with very high quality. I could continue with that for a long time to
come, but the K10D offers significant advantage in speed and
resolution, as well as new, useful features like AntiShake. The K10D
is a semi-pro quality body, the one in a camera line that has usually
fit my needs best.

I can only hope that its successors, whatever they are, will move
along from there. Meanwhile, I have a long way to go before
understanding and exploiting what this camera has to my satisfaction.
