My hope is that my system is up for the task. What I can do to find an
answer before actually buyibg the camera is to compare with converting
PEF's. Judging from your answer this test would give me a pretty good idea.

Using PSCS ACR, I see no apparent difference in processing time for  
the K10 DNG files vs. The *istD PEF files. I'm sure there IS a  
difference, but it's too slight to notice.
