A year ago when my old TV died I got a 13 inch SHARP TV with an LCD screen _ I had never bought a tv for myself before, that I recall (had none at all between 1960 and 1980) The thing is called "EDTV" Enhanced Definition TV - Am I right that it is the same as HDTV?
It really has saved my eyes... but there are some things I would prefer not to see in detail . It is easier to watch even 70 year old movies on it , I will say. For those of us in North America we have Turner Classic Movies - no commercials, great old films . I go to films in real life only about 3 or 4 times a year - and much prefer to watch them at home in general. (also, it is $7 even with my senior discount here) I can't sit through 2 hours of anything without having to get up - the volume of the 10 to 15 minutes of trailers for the next film to be shown is at an intolerable level and even the volume of the films show are sometimes too much for me. The few times I go to a film during the year are to see something I'm really eager for and to share it with a friend. For the most part, the quality of the films shown these days are no better than what is on TV and there have been some compelling shows on the tube in the last year or two. Spielberg's TAKEN comes to mind. Only movies I saw in a threater this year were "An Inconvenient Truth" "The Queen" "Prairie Home Companion" and "Thank you for Smoking" I can't say the first one was "enjoyable" - that would be inappropriate - and I'm a choir member anyway . But I'd have been just as happy watching any of them in an easy chair at home with my homemade popcorn and a bathroom close at hand. ann Paul Stenquist wrote: >I watch Planet Earth.
