Thanks Guys I thought for a moment it was some catastrophic disaster that strikes them. I'm using energiser NiNH at the moment 2300mah (came free with a 15 minute charger) and 2500mah. I was reading the thread regarding rechargable Lithium but unsure whether to try them if they're not recommended by Pentax.
The only slight problem I've encountered with the D is sometimes the AF doesn't work after switching from manual focus, but as this is usually on or about a lens change from K to F or FA I figured a dirty contact or the lens not mounted correctly, re-mounting the the lens cured the problem.
