America before the Europeans was no Eden. There was an interesting article in the New York Times a couple of weeks ago concerning the mythology of the native Americans vs. the reality. The reality, in many cases, was rape, child molestation and sacrifice and even cannibalism. Running Bear and Little White Dove exist only in pop culture.
