  Most likely. You'll have to set compensation then meter, focus,
  compose, etc.
  I usually set exposure compensation after evaluating the scene's
  contrast with the spot meter in manual mode, and only if I cannot
  find a 16% gray area. This is rare, as it happens only for very high
  contrast scenes (backlights) or monochrome subjects filling the
  frame.

  If you're a still shooter like me, it is not. ;o) Otherwise, look
  for a hyper-manual mode camera like MZ-S or PZ-1p.
