I don't generally think too hard about "how many stops" the SR will net me, I just use it and find that it lets me hold the camera steady for longer exposure times. Quite a bit longer in most cases ... With lenses in my normal range (20-77mm), I find 1/10, 1/4 and even 1/2 second quite usable.
Yesterday, in a discussion on another list regards long teles for the Pentax K10D, I quickly snapped together my ultra-cheap F100-300 and the Rear Converter 2x-S for an effective 600mm focal length lens. I made four exposures with it, two hand-held and two tripod mounted ... all done pretty fast and casual so I wouldn't say these are truly indicative of the BEST I can get out of this rig. Exposure times (on Av at f/16 and ISO 400) varied from 1/6 second to 1/13 second. I was really trying to show the magnification possible with this rig so the top picture on the page is a shot from the same vantage point with a 35mm lens fitted: http://homepage.mac.com/godders/K10D-600mm-test/ BTW, the sharpest picture in the set was taken on the tripod with the SR OFF. But I'll have to do some more rigorous testing... someday. :-) Godfrey -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
