I have the 12-24 and overall its a really nice lens. True is a bit on
the big side by pentax standards but its not too bad.
Pros:
Sharp... even wide open though it is not at its best.. by f5.6 ->
f8 its tack sharp
Flare ... Good flare control considering the fact its an ultra wide...
Distortion ... well controlled and easily correctible in PS
Handling... Lovely
Cons:
Chromatic Aberration: Sometimes it can be annoying but so far I
have not had cases of CA that could not be corrected in ACR.
The thing to keep in mind is to watch out for it. I recently had a
shot that required a lot of cloning to remove a tangle of electrial
cables after about 3 hours of cloning out I realised I had forgotten
to remove the CA... In colour the CA was barely noticable but when I
converted the shot to monochrome it really stood out so it took more
time to clone out the CA.. Yes I know you can fix it in PS evern
after ACR but somehow it does not do as good a job...
I only wish it was a D-FA lens instead of a DA lens that way I would
be able to shoot some lovely ultra wide velvia slides with it.
Overall a great lens that I am rapidly becoming addicted to.
