I totally agree. 
If I weren't so tired after a rough day at work, I may have said something

The body does not eat more power when it is cold.

It's rather that the batteries are far less efficient when THEY are  
cold.

If you have a cold camera, and put in warm batteries from your  
pocket, you've got the best of both worlds - a camera that doesn't  
melt all the snow landing on it, and batteries that are working at  
their maximum efficiency.
