I've been following this stuff for a number of years. I find it
comical that they're putting color management in. It's relatively simple
to do with the LittleCMS library around. Trouble is, with only 8bits,
color management is worse than useless. It guarantees even MORE
posterization in the results.
Gimp 2.4 is not going to have deep color. The problem with the
project is that they're going to redesign the entire processing engine
around a new library. Trouble is that library (GEGL) doesn't yet exist.
It will be really great once it finally gets done, but I really don't see
that as likely to happen in at least 2 years. FWIW, Gimp 2.0 was
*supposed* to have deep color. Hahaha!
