You can add your own HD or buy one with a hard-disk installed. the manual has completed instructions on installing a drive and the drive even ships with a screw driver for disassembly. I believe the vendor / distributor actually does the installation, so the specific HD's would vary from place to place. I bought mine from mydigitaldiscount.com - the price with the 80 gig drive was about$200. I initially planned on moving the 40 gig drive from my now 3 year old X's drive over to the compact drive, but the markup from a bare drive to one with an 80 gig disk was affordable.
