I have been using manual exposure mode almost exclusively
so far ( I did try program/Av mode with a couple A lenses
and was not impressed with the consistancy, some overexposed
too much and some underexposed too much depending on subject). I think
the problem with AE on this model ( istDS ) is the camera
doesnt have that much exposure latitude (much less than neg film), and
precise exposure is fairly
critical to a really good image. I just guessimate exposure, shoot, and
tweek manual settings
via f-stop or shutter speed till I get a good histogram and then
shoot for real. I know this technique wont work for fast shooting, but
it works
well if you have the time to do it and a steady subject in steady light.
And its a HELLUVA lot easier than shooting in AE and tweeking the
exposure
compensation over and over again when the subject brightness changes
but the incident light falling on the subject doesnt. I would like
more exposure latitude on a camera (is K10D better in thie regard?)
which would in effect
make the AE much more usable. That and a working apeture cam sensor for
K/M lenses to implement full AE properly for those lenses too! (Guess
you know that already).

I get my istD back from Pentax, fixing a pop up flash problem, soon.

I'll see what i get with different lenses, same scene
