I'm cheap :-) It's only that I don't have any experience with the DA 18-55, and often, kit lenses gets a bad rep for being "cheap" (whether in fact or in price). IMHO, my case in point would be the one that comes with the Canons (18-55/something); I worked with an outfit that had a 20D with the kit lens and it left a lot to be desired.
