I got the kit lens with my K10.  It cost me less than an extra hundred 
dollars, so I sold off my FA-J 18-35 and recouped the cost.  Got an extra 
bit of reach and a better feeling lens.  The DA doesn't feel like junk in my 
hands.
I'm no judge of image quality so I'll have to leave the scientific test 
results for somebody else to address.  It works fine for me.
