One of the folks I was chatting with on photo.net sent me some Canon  
18-55 image files. He was having trouble with processing them ...  
Compared to the Pentax DA18-55, that particular Canon lens is a Coke  
bottle bottom.

The Pentax DA18-55 is not my choice in lenses but it is small and  
light, and surely better than many of the other "kit" lenses on the  
market. For about a hundred dollars, you can't go too far wrong with it.
